Nesconset FD SCUBA & Water Rescue Team

The Nesconset water rescue team is the designated to respond to all water based emergencies within the Town of Smithtown. The team is directed by the Chief of Operations and the Captain of the Ladder Company , along with member and Certified Dive instructor Bill Pffifer and dive instructor Ex-chief Steve Newman. As a group these members drill and train the members of the Scuba team twelve months per year. Members from any of the seven Township Fire Departments can be a member of this team. All members train together and respond as a group. When the tones go out for a water Rescue, the members report to the Nesconset FD and prepare to respond as one united team. Nesconset has a separate vehicle 4423, specifically outfitted for water rescue operations. This truck and the team members can respond anywhere in Suffolk , 4423 is a completely self contained and ready for action 24-7, 365 days a year.

 

Our dive members are prepared to respond to any type of Water Rescue in our Township, whether it is 80 degrees or -10 degrees, these dedicated men and women will respond when asked to help. Each member is certified as a Rescue Diver and has accomplished Hundreds of hours of training and in water hours. Additionally, our members are trained as tenders to assist the divers while in the water, and also have been trained for winter Ice Rescue Operations.

These dedicated members make up this important part of our department, which serves the residents of the  Township of Smithtown, the north Shore of Suffolk County and beyond.
