Nesconset Division of Fire Prevention and Education

Directed by Patricia Colombraro and the Chief's Office

The goal of the Fire Prevention Division is to educate our neighbors and School Children about Fire Prevention techniques. Our members spend hours upon hours at our local K-8 Public Schools during the school year, teaching and educating students about fire, its behavior and safety plans in their homes. We teach the theory of “get out alive” explaining rules about getting out of their homes and going to a pre-arranged meeting place, where all family members will meet in case of an emergency. We bring our Fire Prevention Trailer, which is a fully simulated mock up of a small home. It has live smoke, detector noises and an escape window with a ladder. This trailer is a great tool and it is also a great deal of fun for the kids.

Every October, we host an Open House Fire Prevention day at our Headquarters. Here we display our trucks, all our special equipment, our Dive team displays their gear and we having training stations for the kids. We give away pumpkins to all children that complete the stations, just in time for Halloween.

We have free food and drinks, and this is a great way for the community to spend a day learning about and getting to know their Fire Department.

Please check your childs back pack for our flyers, or on the virtual backpack school website. We look forward to seeing you at Open House.
